“European Herald”: A New Platform for Slavic and European Cultural Dialogue
In June 2025, the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia registered a new Russian-language online journal, “European Herald”, under the European Foundation for Slavic Literature and Culture (EFSLC). This event was significant not only for the Russian-speaking community in Slovakia but also for a broad audience interested in cultural processes in Europe and the Slavic world.
About the Foundation and Its Mission
The European Foundation for Slavic Literature and Culture, based in Bratislava, has served for ten years as a space for supporting the Russian language, Slavic culture, and educational outreach. Among its activities are language courses, collaboration with universities, translation and methodological projects, cultural events, and work with a library collection of over 6,000 publications in Slavic languages: Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Slovak, and others.
Over the years, the foundation has become one of the few organizations fostering sustainable cultural dialogue between Slavic traditions and the European context. The creation of the “European Herald” journal is a logical continuation of this work and a key milestone in the foundation’s publishing strategy.
Format and Concept of the Journal
The “European Herald” will be published quarterly—four issues per year. The primary focus is on the electronic version, available on the foundation’s website, allowing readers from different countries to access materials in a timely manner. Alongside the digital format, a printed edition is planned in Russia and Slovakia.
The main language of publications is Russian, in line with the foundation’s mission to support and promote the Russian language abroad. At the same time, select materials are planned to be published in translations into European languages to make the content accessible to a wider, international audience.
Themes: From Tradition to Modernity
The journal is envisioned as a platform uniting cultural, literary, historical, and philosophical studies, as well as event reviews, interviews, essays, and analytical materials that reveal processes in the Slavic world—both in its internal development and its interaction with the European space.
Key directions:
“European Herald” is more than just a journal—it is a tool for cultural exchange. It aims to serve as a bridge between authors and readers, between diverse linguistic and cultural communities. This is particularly relevant today—in an era of digital globalization, when cultural initiatives become a vital element of public diplomacy and humanitarian interaction.
The Launch of “European Herald” is a significant step in developing a new platform that connects Slavic cultural traditions with a European perspective. This publication continues the EFSLC’s educational mission and opens new horizons for professional and public dialogue.
We invite readers and authors to visit the journal’s website, where the first materials are already available. Ahead lie new issues, new topics, and new points of connection.
“European Herald”—a space where culture speaks the language of mutual understanding.
